    Twitter Goes Mainstream

    August 20, 2009

Corporate America Finding Tweet Smell of Success on Twitter
“Excerpts from an article in Investor’s Business Daily”

Many companies are starting to realize that using Twitter gives them an easy access to key audience.

Corporate America is all a-twitter. From agriculture giant MONSANTO to STARBUCKS, outfits of all stripes have added Twitter to their mix of communication tools.

According to Forrester Research, marketers are looking for free ways to reach influential audiences, especially in a bad economy.

Here is an unbelievable statistic - the number of U.S unique visitors to Twitter.com jumped to 20.1 million in June from 9.3 million just three months earlier (according to Andrew Lipsman, an analyst at market tracker comScore).

Companies use Twitter for everything from product testing to customer service to offering spot deals.

Go Starbucks -  is an active tweeter.  In less than a year, it’s build up to more than 273,000 followers, and adds 1,000 to 2,000 per day.

Cable Leader COMCAST uses Twitter for customer services and to get customer feedback on products and issues.  The company makes contact with an average of 250 customers a day on Twitter.

MONSANTO uses Twitter for corporate communications.  It has nearly 2,100 followers, including journalists and people just interested in agriculture.

Part of their Twitter Strategy is to drive people to their web site and to specific content they want their audience to see.

WAL-MART uses Twitter to let customers keep up with deals.

    Examples of Tweets:

STARBUCKS - If you like the Soy Chai, you should try an Earl Gray Tea Latte

SAMCLUBDEALS - Preorder Madden NFL 10 & receive a $5 gift card when the item ships

WALMART SPECIALS - Walmart.com Hot Deals: “iPod Touch (2nd Gen), 16GB”

MONSANTOCO - Just finished with a meeting about Farm Progress … LOTS of cool stuff planned, stay tuned.

Twitter is gaining huge momentum. Just in the past three or four months, use of Twitter for marketing has boomed exponentially.  No wonder, it’s a easy and FREE  way for companies to connect with their customers.

    So let’s keep on Twitting.
